Oscar Romero

This is a narrative that has been entered in the Elsie Locke competition. This story is based on how Oscar Romero protested for poor peoples rights.

“Hello brothers and sisters today we are gather here in the name of Christ” Oscar Romero said.
As he spoke, I thought of how many people he inspired. I saw the doors of the chapel swing open and  BOOM! I took a deep breath in fear and fell to my knees. My eyes watered in sadness. The floor was covered in red blood and my heart broke when I saw Oscar’s body dead on the ground.  Shock took over me and I started to panic.  I prayed to the Lord to help me as I felt pain sinking inside.
“Oh my goodness!” I heard someone in the congregation scream.
Most people rushed over to help, others were just in shock. Everybody looked devastated. To see the shock on people's faces makes me drown in sorrow. He was the most inspiring man who fought till his last day and to think that he is gone. No way this has happened. I crawl over to see his face one last time and it is covered with blood. A tear of mine dropped on his sorrowful face thinking this was a dream but no, I was just living in reality.

His body was taken away for his funeral and other nuns and I cleaned up thinking that he is now in the hands of the Lord, but sadness had taken away hope. The floor is now polished, sparkly and clean but now my path ends not knowing what to do, no words to say without Oscar Romero to speak for me.

I walked across the pathway to Oscar Romero’s funeral holding a bouquet of his favourite flowers. We all showed our respect and stood there in silence. We all grieved for the loss of our friend and leader, Oscar Romero. We all said goodbye to the voice that always stood up for us and tried to change how we were all treated. I cried and cried until my eyes ran out of tears. BOOM! BOOM! My heart was shattered in little pieces like glass being smashed onto the ground.
